Productive Negrito Work Party pleases USFS

Over the weekend of May 3-6, the New Mexico Pilots Association sponsored a work party at USFS Negrito Airstrip (0NM7) to replace thousands of feet of downed cattle fence surrounding the airstrip.

The event was hosted by New Mexico RAF State Liaisons Larry Filener and myself; both us are also actively involved in NMPA.

Arizona’s Spring Flying Season Continues

Arizona’s spring backcountry fly-in season is nearly over, but two events remain. Join us May 18-20, for our final hosted Grapevine (88AZ) event until fall; and Pleasant Valley (24AZ) that ends the season on Memorial Day weekend. Pleasant Valley is just outside of the quaint little town of Young.

Creighton Island Fly-in Sets a High Bar

RAF Ambassador Eric Davis reports that the weather they had for the first of the series of Creighton Island fly-ins was perfect for exploring this unique place. Folks from Florida and Georgia flew in, including RAF South Carolina Liaison Bill Repucci and his son Turner.

Fun Trip to Sun 'n Fun

RAF Wisconsin Liaison Jeff Russell recently returned from his journey to Sun ’n Fun where he got to experience stops at four RAF-supported airstrips.

He stopped in to visit Arkansas Liaison Dave Powell in Bentonville who rounded up some pilot friends to take Jeff on a personal air tour of the area including a stop at Trigger Gap.  “What a great airstrip!” Jeff reported. Dave also shared additional projects that are in the works there.

Bowstring Call to Action fills the room

RAF Minnesota Liaison Kurt Pennuto wants to thank everyone who took time to respond to a Call To Action regarding Bowstring Airport. The impressive turnout included 43 pilots — many of whom are RAF members — a resort owner, and the videographer who produced the Bowstring Fly in video. Twelve airplanes flew in. The County also received 28 emails, letters and phone calls. All wanted Bowstring to retain its open status.

RAF Illinois Liaison Mike Purpura is pleased to announce “the perfect workshop for those folks who want to learn how to land on grass and land short.” This two-day workshop is co-sponsored by the RAF, Havana (9I0) Airport Board and SimplyFLY Flight School. “Many pilots have asked me about short and soft field techniques,” Mike said.
